If you ever wanted to be up to date with the world’s leading Internet software provider, here are some PPAs you can install:
All of the instructions below are Terminal commands.
- Firefox
- 5.0 (Stable):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 6.0 (Beta):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 7.0 (Aurora):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/firefox-aurora
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 8.0 (Nightly):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox-trunk
- Thunderbird
- 5.0 (Stable):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 6.0 (Beta):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 7.0 (Aurora):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/thunderbird-aurora
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- 8.0 (Nightly):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install thunderbird-trunk
The higher the version, the less it is tested, therefore it is not a good idea to use Nightly or Aurora builds.
If you have any problems with the installation, feel free to leave a comment below.
If this worked, please link to this post!

I can’t find any release notes, but check these out:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ (Sign up for the newsletter of your choice)
http://blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases (Blog about new features in Firefox/Aurora/Nightly)
Apparently they don’t have any blogs/newsletters for Thunderbird/Earlybird/Shredder.
